With all due respect, had you termed it as mass psychosis, and focused on that,and what it is, rather than the term you chose, I think your message would've been better understood.

A lot of the laughter was a lexical issue: The overwhelming majority of people would be way more open to such ideas (and those of spirituality more broadly) if the words used were from a vocabulary they're comfortable with. "Psychic" sounds woo - it's pretty much that simple.
