The best argument for raising the minimum wage to $15 comes from @JoeBiden: No American who works 40 hours a week should live in poverty.

Are you serious Marianne? That made more sense in 2015/2016 when Bernie was leading the call to raise it to $15 and people like Hillary were pushing a paltry $12. We now have price increases during a pandemic such that $15 is unacceptable and will keep people in poverty.

While true, that characterization misses the mark in two ways. First, morally. No one should live in poverty. Whether or not they work or whatever is their nationality should be irrelevant.

We should have a 4 day work week with livable wage jobs period. More time for ourselves is beneficial for everyone

No, it’s dumb. I run preschools, if I raise mw to $15 that means in Il my qualified teachers make as much as my completely unqualified staff. So, in order to be fair, I have to raise everyone. That prices me out of the market for everyone besides a family of 1.

Hey @marwilliamson how about we also incentivize employers to actually hire full time employees by uncoupling health care from jobs. Too many employers are happy to have a bunch of part timers they don’t have to pay benefits for, forcing them to work multiple jobs.

He stole that from Bernie. He never gave it a moment's consideration until he saw how people responded to Bernie's campaign for a living wage.

Nobody should have to work 40 hrs a week to survive. People spend their entire loves breaking their back for other people & the 40 hr week discourages family time, civic engagement & passion pursuing. We need to really talk about a reduced work week in addition to higher wages.
