Looking at the footage of the Jan. 6 riot, it's unbelievable that it took hours before DC's National Guard arrived. Trying to wrap my head around it.

Trump didn’t plan the protest, let alone an insurrection. If he had he would be the worst insurrectionist ever. A few of the extremists would have done worse crimes if not stopped. 99% were peaceful demonstrators. Leftist extremists have caused many times more damage.

how could the instigators still be free?

They were told not to come by the mayor.

My understanding was the national guard was standing by and ready to go at the moment things got out of control

National Guard personnel aren't sitting around waiting for a call out of the blue, let alone a call to quell a riot. Even most military police units don't train for such.

There was a lack of security because that's what Trump wanted.

It's unbelievable that the Capitol Police couldn't stop/didn't try to stop them from entering the building... Why would you not expect the National Guard to take forever too? The people in power wanted these pictures. There's simply no denying this.

Wasn't that it took them a long time to arrive it was because they were waiting on the approval from the Pentagon, since DC is not a state. They were requested many times by diff parties, even days before. The Pentagon did not agree that they were needed. cnn.com/2021/01/06/politics/…

If it had been Isis, they would have had jets and helicopters with soldiers parachuting out
