Poverty isn’t just financial hardship; it’s psychological & emotional trauma that increases the probability of violence, addiction & even death by despair. It’s a petri dish out of which emerges the worst kinds of societal dysfunction. Our goal should be its complete eradication.

I'd like a 3 part social safety net. 1. $2k/month permanent Unconditional Basic Income or a Targeted BI for the non-wealthy. (under $500,000?) all earnings & other benefits stack on BI 2. Federal Job Guarantee GND 3. Universal Health Care & Services including guaranteed housing

Poverty makes us sick, it makes us crazy, it makes us not able to think in our right minds. If a kid can’t pay for an instrument for the band class she longs to take and she doesn’t take the class—it’s a very sad affair indeed.

I believe this to be true. We don't look enough at psychological effects from poverty on people's behavior in society. I keep hearing that Trump voters are from a certain rung of economic class. What if that has less to do with it than trauma these people experienced when young?

Well stated, I think most would agree up to this point. The controversy will be in how this is addressed. The Left is generally better at pointing out disparities, the Right is better at solutions. If only these two sides of the brain could come together honestly.
