One of the worst things about extreme income inequality is how many people don’t see enough of other people’s circumstances. It’s too easy to dissociate from the reality of someone else’s life if you never see them and never know them. Empathy decreases and numbness takes over.

Whoever was yelling in the magaphone outside the Capitol on Insurrection Wednesday was making demands. 90% of the demands involved financial relief of some kind. Amazing how Conservatives continue to ignore this.

thank you for keeping the focus on what’s important in our country right now alive, ms. williamson, but i hope you are also able to take some time to relax and care for your own body and mind’s restorative needs tonight.

One of the things about living in the court of Versailles is you can't see the mother and child dying for the lack of a piece of bread or the farmer beating his plowshare into a sword. Those who forget history are often doomed to repeat it.

Same thing is happening with Covid, the PPE, hospital overloads, and first responders. Out of sight out of mind. Why is empathy so rare?💔☮️🕊

the degree to which you can empathize is largely developed between ages 3-5 through what’s known as “theory of mind” ..... Which is all to say that, might be naive to assume other folks even have the ability to sense empathy the way you do, lost causes, etc.

It’s also so disheartening to see people more concerned and up in arms about someone who might get a few hundred extra bucks through food stamps rather than billionaires evading taxes and hoarding wealth offshore.

A 40 year trajectory increasing exponentially; now they build luxury boxes for the stadiums with a different entrance and escalator. That's how isolated the plutocrats have become from the plebeians. In the old days when it rained at the ballpark everybody got wet

Very widespread and virulent. I would say there is more numbness currently than covid.
