American politics is this weird place where a request for our “inalienable rights to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness” is often treated like the entitled demands of a spoiled brat or crazy radical. Case in point: a hungry child cannot pursue happiness.

The only reason they changed "life, liberty and property" to "life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness" was to convince the masses to back the Revolution which was in fact by and for the Colonial propertied class. I don't think they really meant it, as 245 yrs of history prove
