Can you imagine FDR getting the country on track about the horrible depression? Even in the middle of it he had detractors, and what did he say? "I welcome their hatred" and he went full steam ahead.
An Australian Prime Minister in the 1970s brought in sweeping changes such as universal health care and indigenous rights. He was plotted against and sacked, using our system for bad instead of good. May that not be your experience.
It's interesting that FDR is held up as the paradigm of social justice warrior by democratics, yet if he were around today he would be told to wait cause it's not the right time.
