We need to reinstate the Fairness Doctrine & repeal the Telecommunications Act. There will be a new prez in a week and we shouldn’t just wait to see what he will do; we should think about what it is we want. The American people have gotten into the habit of asking for too little.

If they had done that a decade ago, and repealed Section 230 along with that, you wouldn't have Twitter or other social networks to make that terribly unwise comment on. You'd have curated letters to the editor. Web2.0 is only viable because users contribute most of the content.

And the Fairness Doctrine meant you got three channels of Capitalist Broadcasting System (plus sometimes PBS) unwilling to allow positions that weren't the Establishment's Official Stance; any other opinions got a 2-minutes Fairness segment just before the 6am farm weather report

Fairness Doctrine cannot be applied to cable or internet communications. It depended upon the airwaves being owned by the people/feds; possibly could work with mobile, which uses licensed bands owned by feds. Otherwise, it's a 1A violation.

The Fairness Doctrine only applied to old-school TV spectra and FM and AM radio because the federal government owns and leases this spectra. Government cannot force private property owners to publish any speech or forbid publication of (virtually) any speech. Learn the law.

"Ask not what your country can do for you...ask what you can do for your country." Heard someone say that in a speech once...
