No. In Watergate, the fact that the president did something illegal was seen as a really huge deal and even Republicans thought so. And remember what he did: he covered up a burglary.

True, it was that dangerous to our democracy ad there was no violent mob trying to kill elected officials. The #TrumpRussia thing and the Ukraine affair are more akin to Watergate than that. Maybe also Trump's calls w/GA's Secretary of State. But not the mob.
Which only meant the consensus of power were more united than today. And Nixon's offense to powerful insiders wasn't for trying to cover up evidence his team broke into Watergate offices. Nixon's clash with the MIC was because of detente and trying to prevent future wars.

I understand that in the tapes they heard that Nixon was aware that the break in was going to happen and he had money to fund the coverup too. He was reasonable enough to listen when Goldwater told him the whole Senate was ready to remove him. He got that helecopter and split.
And the republicans told Nixon it is time resign or we will impeach. Today? Republicans are spineless
