In 1949 Congress passed the Fairness Doctrine requiring broadcast licensees give "honest, equitable & balanced" coverage of news. Seeking to deregulate all business enterprise, Reagan ended it in 1987. We need to reinstate it & include tech platforms! #ReinstateFairnessDoctrine

Ms. Williamson slips in a poison pill at the end. 1. The Fairness Doctrine applied to news orgs, not "public square" forums. It could not be used to regulate bulletin boards, as she pretends. 2. Reinstating the FD is a prudent necessity. Stop there. Thanks for your support!

It should be called TRUTH DOCTRINE. I don’t care if both sides are portrayed - I care that they can’t LIE. And they did - about COVID. And about the ELECTION. And both cost lives. They should be held responsible.

We also need to regulate tech platforms as utilities

This is exactly what set the stage for people tuning out regular news & tuning in to propaganda channels. What happened the other day is the result. Thank you for pointing that out.

What we need, I think, is public media sources not owned by oligarchs with financial interest in manipulating our beliefs. And corporate owned “news” should not exist.

And as long as we’re assigning responsibility for our current horror show, let’s not forget this major instigator: @rupertmurdoch #Accountability
