In 1949 Congress passed the Fairness Doctrine requiring broadcast licensees give "honest, equitable & balanced" coverage of news. Seeking to deregulate all business enterprise, Reagan ended it in 1987. We need to reinstate it & include tech platforms! #ReinstateFairnessDoctrine

The Fairness Doctrine was used to prevent communism. Will it be re-invoked to ward off fascism? I do not think so. Fascism is capitalism's go-to strategy when the people get wise. All the media are capitalist.

Don’t forget about the NDAA Obama signed into law in 2012 that made it legal for our intelligence agencies to disseminate propaganda to US citizens. The bill “struck the ban on domestic dissemination of propaganda produced by the State Department.” businessinsider.com/ndaa-leg…

I’ve been preaching that for years to anybody who would listen. Look at the history re: Murdoch’s involvement and Limbaugh’s career launch thereafter.

The Fairness Doctrine only applied to network television. Cable networks, like Fox News, would have been immune. usatoday.com/story/news/fact…

thank you. Removal of the Fairness Doctrine enabled right-wing radio, which has filled the minds of people driving with bad information for 30 years now. A democracy won't provide good governance if the people making decisions (voting) are misinformed.

This law was so silly and outdated by the time it was phased out. It’s measure of what is fair is extremely subjective and was meant for public radio stations. How would this even apply to the thousands of different ways information is disseminated today, public or private?
