In 1949 Congress passed the Fairness Doctrine requiring broadcast licensees give "honest, equitable & balanced" coverage of news. Seeking to deregulate all business enterprise, Reagan ended it in 1987. We need to reinstate it & include tech platforms! #ReinstateFairnessDoctrine

Integral brother - how do you improve critical thinking ? Education system?
The doctrine simply stated that broadcasters were required to air all opinions, including differing ones. It鈥檚 elimination led to the rise of RW hate radio and our current political climate where yelling at each other is considered debate. Also limited monopolies. Bring it back.

I disagree as far as tech platforms go, but definitely agree with broadcast networks.
I don't care who ended it, today the media is the public enemy number one!!!

It鈥檚 interesting that most comments here seem to think it鈥檚 only right-wing news that spins misinformation and partisan conspiracy theories. As if the last 4 years of Russia fear-mongering, red-baiting conspiratorial hysteria never happened.
Tech platforms - didn鈥檛 think about that aspect
