This is corporate behavior completely devoid of conscience. It's also why Prop. 22 was a bad idea, and why we need to change from an economic to a humanitarian bottom line. Business should not be - and does not have to be - soulless.
Vons and Albertsons stores in California just laid off every one of their full-time, union delivery drivers, and will replace them with DoorDash gig workers who receive no benefits as a direct result of Prop 22. buff.ly/358CR6Z

Yep. Social democratic systems are much better designed for a modern gig economy. Everyone gets the basics—health care, paid vacation, college, good public schools, parental leave, retirement.

Yeah it kinda does. Contrary to judicial opinion. A business is not a person and has no soul, or conscience, for that matter. Vons is a corporation. The ppl who manage it are legally obliged to maximize shareholder profit.

We are moving much more quickly towards a dystopian technological future than we are towards any kind of utopia through technology. The system is failing us, and it seems like things will have to get much worse before they get any better unfortunately.

This is why M4A is important but not the main issue. We need money out of politics, financial limitations on congress, and term limits to address healthcare, workers rights, environment, BLM, and all the causes we care about.

Agreed. I feel for those who've now lost their jobs and benefits.

In countries with strong labor laws, like the US used to be, just waking up one morning and deciding to lay off unionized workers is not possible. Period. It isn't a question of "soul" and "conscience". It's a question of LAW. And law-makers make, and can change, laws.
