1/ The reason extreme income inequality is so viscerally repulsive to me is because I’m old enough to remember the time - before 1980 - when it wasn’t this way. It all started with the Reagan tax cuts and Reaganomics in 1980.

2/ Example: Walmart corporation made $16.4B in profits in 2011 yet pays its employees minimum wage. The family has $100B, more than bottom 40% of all Americans. Unjust economic policies made this possible, and no one no one no one should be okay with it. #TaxTheRich

We can change this. The solution is electing Progressives. Want to make a difference, join your Local Berniecrats Chapter. Filling dates for the midterms are here. Let's flood the ballots with progressives and get them elected nationwide. @LBcrats

Pendulum has gone from one extreme to the other, but big money is still in control by manipulating a large % of the population to vote against their economic interests based on social issues. Georgia has the power to stall and begin a reversal that's very critical for healing

Replying to @marwilliamson I distinctly remember the vibe in the US changing after Regan was elected. Please include the fact that lots of people were getting rich before his tax cut. They were referred to as: The Upper Middle Class

I do too. I think when people can't see in their mind's eye or remember what we saw and lived, they accept a reality that is in fact unacceptable. Somehow we need to help people hold a new vision of what is real, possible and acceptable.

Did you know Reagan effectively "killed" mental health hospitals & gov't assistance for mental health issues? We have seen the effects of this ever since in our culture & society. Criminal!

We’ve tried trickle down for 40 years, it’s proven itself to be an utter failure. Let’s try trickle up for once, see how that works

Me too!! I had worked as a VISTA Vol and then went into gov’t service. Even at the bottom, had livable wage, paid benefits and retirement and paid time off. Only had to work one job. 😊

Same. Our taxes tripled under Reagan and my husband (now ex) praised him. It was the weirdest disconnect on his part and still perplexes me to this day.

I'd argue it was closing of Bretton Woods, essentially the end of New Deal, that opened the door. We walked through that door during the Reagan admin. Unoincidentally, one of the biggest proponent and architect of closing BW, Volcker took over fed and monetary policy in 1980.
