1/ The reason extreme income inequality is so viscerally repulsive to me is because I’m old enough to remember the time - before 1980 - when it wasn’t this way. It all started with the Reagan tax cuts and Reaganomics in 1980.

2/ Example: Walmart corporation made $16.4B in profits in 2011 yet pays its employees minimum wage. The family has $100B, more than bottom 40% of all Americans. Unjust economic policies made this possible, and no one no one no one should be okay with it. #TaxTheRich

I love the beginning of that one #MichaelMoore movie where the voiceover talks about how much nostalgia middle America has for the 50s and then the statistics roll: highest tax rate on the wealthy paying 4 GI Bill, jobs building hiways, cheap public colleges, hi quality schools

Reagan was just a return to pre-New Deal norms in many ways. It’s always been a rigged system.

Often, previous generations had retirement funds, health & life insurance coverage, stock buys, bonuses, Union pay, gold watches, awards, etc as part of employment. Late 80’s: My mother-in-law retired from Bellsouth (AT&T) My Mother retired from Washoe County NV Now haha 😂

There was a time when Democrats were reflective of Sanders and Neoliberals like Pelosi & Schumer represented the far right of the Republican Party. I remember it. People had good union jobs, a home, a car, took vacations. Hard to believe 2 generations now have no concept of that.
