What is a centrist at this point if not someone looking at a burning house and thinking that a garden hose might do the job?

No, to me that’s just an intelligent American. Eisenhower said “the American mind at its best is both conservative and liberal” and I agree with that. But centrists these days tend to water down the best ideas of both.

My god, I’m a Centrist. To think I thought I was an independent.

That's right. It's a perfect ideology for co-optation, because it sounds so serious and respectable, but at the end all it does is renders original progressive proposals (M4A) ineffective and unexciting (ACA).

So you speak of politicians or the public? Centrist means two different things depending on which you’re referencing. A regular centrist citizens tends to be reasonable, flexible. A centrist politician tends to lack conviction or will.

Problem is our problems can’t be solved from the middle; centrism isn’t up to the task. I’m ecosocialist myself.

It seems like you are identifying Centrists as compromisers which is what our government has been doing all along. But I guess it is your right to apply your own meaning to a label even if it is not accurate. Happy new year.
