What is a centrist at this point if not someone looking at a burning house and thinking that a garden hose might do the job?

Yeah but who gets put up, who gets money behind them and Press coverage (look at the disgraceful coverage of Bernie from CNN MSNBC etc) are folk chosen by the establishment... Trump broke that mold because he spent his entire life developing the skill of getting free air time

No, a centrist hears somebody suggest using a hose, and criticizes them for being divisive, and trying to "cancel" the fire. That's where we're at in this country.
Some people are just lost souls. When you only get your information from msnbc & cnn you have a world view like this.

more like someone with their back to a burning house, hosing the people screaming "the house is burning!"

Ok, fine. But until & unless the center shifts, this will remain political reality. The question is: how to shift the center? We know stridency is counter-productive. We also know many progressive ideas have broad support but the power implicit in this is lost. Therefore, what?

They look at the burning house and decide the garden hose isn't good enough so they decided never to call the fire department. It wasn't a good time to call them anyway.

Just come out and say you hate poor and working class people and enjoy watching them suffer. Just come out and say you're fine with people dying, homeless and bankrupt from treatable illnesses.

*pretending* that a garden hose might do the job. They know what they're doing.
