The current political mindset runs counter to the worldview that will lead us into a more sustainable future. It treats symptoms but doesn’t name cause, ensuring that even when symptoms are dealt with they’ll in time morph into other forms. We need a new political enlightenment.

It's not a mindset. It's capitalism. It systemically rewards people motivated by insatiable greed while punishing or ignoring those humanitarian goals. We could get rid of all the bad people in charge today and the system would still choose another crop of bad people.

Crony capitalism unfettered by ethical considerations or a governmental regulation IS a mindset.

"Crony Capitalism". Now you sound like a Libertarian. Capitalism, by its very nature, ends up in cronyism because eventually the owners simply buy the government, as they have in America. Come on. The peasants didn't make a distinction between Feudalism and "Crony Feudalism".

Agreed. But (and this is a big but), many of these people are actual clinical psychopaths or sociopaths. For real. We cannot change their mindset or neurobiology. This “problem” absolutely exists in both the Republican and Democrat parties.

I agree that our government is deeply removed from ethical considerations, but I don't think there is a good form of capitalism. It demands infinite growth on a finite planet. You should have a chat with @profwolff. The ways things are aren't how they have to be
