Republicans repeatedly refused to say what amount the President wanted for direct checks. At last, the President has agreed to $2,000 — Democrats are ready to bring this to the Floor this week by unanimous consent. Let’s do it!

Replying to @SpeakerPelosi
Why should it have mattered what the president said he wanted? What should have mattered is what the Democrats demanded.

Because Democrats have to get it past the senate. Cool if the president says he wants stimulus money for individuals, but unless he actually has someone representing him at the negotiations, it's not helpful. Democrats have been trying to pass something, anything since May.

You've got to read between the line dear @marwilliamson. Something we know about Reps/Potus... They're predictable. Just seat back and watch 😉
Most repubs will only go on party lines and they control the senate. If trump gives his sprinkle, they are more likely to go with 2k. I believe 2k IS what Dems wanted but no chance if senate doesn't agree.
Because it shows that Republicans themselves do not want to write checks for that much. They had been implying that they were subserviant to the president. It turms out that they are subservient to other "people".

Not if they wanted people to have do@e money before Xmas... his own party were the ones stuck on the lower amount
