I read Marianne Williamson’s book on depression. It is horrific. Her premise is you are just super sad and maybe you need to lose everything to get to the place where you can accept God’s love. Also, she claims psychiatrists referred people to her.

I remember speaking with you several times at a church in Santa Monica where you spoke on Sunday nights. You insisted my depression was essentially an illusion and it was my responsibility to combat it with positivity. Your advice nearly killed me.

I have never told anyone that their depression was an illusion and that it was “their responsibility to combat it with positivity.” ACIM speaks of depression, actually. But I’m very glad you got the help that you need.

I am here to say you said this to my face on more than one occasion in the 80s in Santa Monica. You were teaching the Course in Miracles and we spoke several times after your teaching. You reiterated that my depression had no more meaning than I gave it.
