1/The pandemic might end within a few months; hopefully it will. But the results of how horribly our government responded to it will be with us for years to come in the form of broken lives and human suffering that will completely overwhelm the capacity of our systems to address.

2/Everything that was already a problem, from a broken education system to homelessness to poverty, will be exponentially made worse on the other side of this, as we won't be able to absorb all the people who fell through the cracks during the pandemic.

Marianne, I hear much condemnation of government action or inaction regarding the pandemic. But I never hear what the critics would have done differently. Would you please enlighten me?

A person more often than not cannot understand another’s suffering. They see it, but if they don’t experience it themselves they don’t understand. It’s like in Castaway when Nolan couldn’t understand the pain of the cancer diagnosis of his friend’s wife. It took a journey.
