We’re probably closer to an animal response which just worries about their immediate actual offspring. We somehow cannot galvanize this kind of primal concern for the collective.

this makes me think of the Industrial era, when women and children of no means and low standing were shuttled into hellish factories to be mangled and killed all in the name of profit, Capitalism is antithetical to pleasure and empathy, it has to take those things away and resell
