2/ In fact that’s exactly what they did in 2000 when SCOTUS overrode ruling of the Florida Supreme Court that they would re-count all their votes.(On later recount, Gore won) Then retired Justice Sandra Day O’Connor said later she regretted her vote. The Iraq War was a result.

Ummmmmm...beg to differ. This is a case where TX filed a suit for the Electorates in several states to vote for Trump when the electoral votes have already been certified for Biden.

Some SCOTUS decisions are looked back on as having been mistakes. Ironically, 2000 was clearly the “judicial activism” that conservatives decry. The Constitution is clear that states determine their own elections, which is why Scotus decided the way it did today.
