What Republicans call “far left” policies like universal healthcare and free college tuition are considered middle of the road mainstream positions in most of Europe. How tragic that people have been convinced that they deserve so little by the very people who are taking so much.

They're profiting as though they're doing us "commoners" a favor. We're supposed to believe that's what freedom is about ~ poverty & sickness, fires & floods & hurricanes. And Trump has been known to say "I love the uneducated." He said that in reference to his base.

Yeah, and if you count what we pay to health care as a tax (which it is), the US pays more taxes than any European citizen without ANY of the benefits.

A worker in a supermarket today makes less than I did in 1975, and gets no benefits. That is without adjusting for inflation. How did the powers that be convince everyone that making a living wage is a bad thing?

why do liberals want america to be just like European countries? like they are the gold standard. WE are the gold standard.

Beware radical liberals, for they will give you programs like these.

Exactly right. Fear mongering on Fox about “socialism” and most of their viewers have no idea what it means. They think it will be Cuba when in fact it would be more like Canada. They can still have their capitalist system with universal healthcare.

Most Americans living abroad make two main observations. (1) I did not realize how bad/hard life is for most Americans. (2) I cannot believe we were so brainwashed to think we had it so good. It is amazing how we keep voting for politicians not in our best interests.

That’s the issue - we’ve been stripped of self-esteem and have been conditioned to believe basic rights are entitlements we don’t deserve
