1/ I remember interviews of Trump in the 1980s & he wasn’t that bad. He wasn’t someone I would’ve voted for for president but he had a reasonableness about him. He wasn’t horrifying.

2/ He changed over the years. It was apparently Kushner who convinced him that playing the hate card would get him elected president. I tend to think if he had stayed who he was, he still might have won in 2016 & he’d probably be headed for a second term now.

3/ For so long – and I know, we still have 40 some odd days to worry about – he was such a malignant presence that all some of us could think about was how to get him out of the WH. Now that his presidency is waning, I think of him less as a danger and more as a human tragedy.

You would have voted for him. Guess who would have not voted for him in 1980s? New Yorkers.

I know, I saw a Dick Cavett show clip of him and he sounded pretty sane and he didn't seem to be quite as much of a narcissist...

I disagree. You look back to his issues with housing discrimination in the 70s & with the Central Park 5 in the 90s, his offensive views on race are long-standing. No political consultant or relative convinced him to be start Birtherism, that is who he is/who he has always been

And yet he exploited workers and bankrupted businesses. Inexcusable.

His tenants might disagree.

He didn't really change until around 2010. Seriously, y'all see his policy positions when he was running for the Reform Party nomination in 2000? He was in favor of M4A, taxing billionaires to pay for the national debt (himself included) and wanted Oprah as his VP.

I don’t think paying for an ad in the NYT calling for 5 black teenager’s death was reasonable at all. He was awful in the 80s too.

I think it's important to remember while you are jumping through hoops trying to empathize with people instead of hate them, those people aren't doing a thing to meet you half way and absolutely deserve a smack upside the back of the whole head
