1/ I remember interviews of Trump in the 1980s & he wasn’t that bad. He wasn’t someone I would’ve voted for for president but he had a reasonableness about him. He wasn’t horrifying.

2/ He changed over the years. It was apparently Kushner who convinced him that playing the hate card would get him elected president. I tend to think if he had stayed who he was, he still might have won in 2016 & he’d probably be headed for a second term now.

3/ For so long – and I know, we still have 40 some odd days to worry about – he was such a malignant presence that all some of us could think about was how to get him out of the WH. Now that his presidency is waning, I think of him less as a danger and more as a human tragedy.

in that era; with telephone calls into talk radio impersonator "john barron" revealed as a sociopath. In that that disorder can and does by definition con people you were had l suspect. ( I dont mean to be crass btw!)

Not sure how you get to “he wasn’t that bad” in interviews????? There’s a BIG difference in growing older and becoming a “grumpy old man” , and being a sociopathic narcissist. You don’t BECOME that, he’s never cared about ANYTHING but himself his whole life

Or maybe you (and many others) just didn’t know him well enough back then. I believe what Mary tRump has written about her uncle and she has known him a long long time.

I was in elementary school in the 80's, & I remember seeing DJT on TV & thinking he was creepy. Children often pick up on things quicker than adults do.

This is the first really bad take I’ve read from you. You have a wonderful outlook & want to see good in people but Trump has never been reasonable and never been a good person. Interviews are where evil people lie. Actions are what makes a person.

I disagree there was anything ever "reasonable" about him. What I will never understand is his GOP followers who had nothing good to say about him pre-election who have done a complete 180 and have their noses up his arse. It is such a poor reflection on each and every one.

I remember a piece I wrote for my school paper in the 80’s in which I used him as the most vapid example of our our declining society that I could think of. He’s older and maybe a bit nastier, but little else has changed.
