I did, look at how any major corporation is run: always with razor thin margins, on the brink of collapse. Same with the Corporate States of America. They refused to invest in healthcare or sick leave during a pandemic. What did they expect?
How did you not? I know you're a hopeful person, but any cursory review of U.S. history says this is exactly what the country would do under these circumstances.
