America deserves neither the Right’s delusional self-congratulations nor the Left’s knee jerk condemnation. It deserves citizens who will take an honest look in the mirror, honor our ancestors for where they got it right and repair the things that are so clearly broken.

Is it the Left's knee jerk condemnation of racism or poverty that irks you the most?

No, that’s just honestly looking in the mirror. Those are exactly the kind of things that *need* to be looked at. But there is a universal judgementalness, a refusal to acknowledge anything that America has ever done right, that obstructs rather than serves the process of repair.

Yup. Been with the left for decades. Too many are willing to burn down the house or condemn potential allies in mean-spirited ways. We are also eating our own for lunch. Egoists aren't just on the right and love and respect matter.

So we should clap for America’s economic and democratic prowess that is *still* based on slavery and colonialism? Everything that America has done “right” has depended on suffocating nations and identities. My knee jerk reaction is to kick this mentality in the butt.

I think that might be a limited view of the makeup of the Left. I've found nothing but openness and acceptance from the Left, and crushing condemnation (literal - to Hell) from the Right. I think for a lot of us Leftists, the harsh, snap judgements are actually trauma responses.
