I understand the critique of #DefundThePolice as a slogan, what I don’t understand is that it’s critics never say what they would do instead. “It’s a bad slogan, so let’s leave policing as it is” is a thousand times worse than any slogan.

I think it’s an unwise slogan because it miscommunicates. Less $ for police wouldn’t have saved George Floyd, Breonna Taylor or Philippe Castille etc. It alone doesn’t get to the core problem: corrupted police culture & inadequate training. #ReformThePolice sounds better to me.

I like you but you are wrong. All of those are a result of police continually being rewarded after wrongfully killing people and abusing power. Put in accountability in the form of funding and you’ll see overnight changes.

Maybe listen to the community instead of mouthing off about what you think is better or worse.
I’m agnostic on the name but I think it puts us in an unnecessarily difficult position. There would always have been people who disliked the phrasing no matter what it is. But it’s ambiguity is causing division within the very people who agree and support the principle
Reforming by defunding, or we let them keep their militarized equipment including “less than lethal” weaponnry? Unless you are referring to reform when it comes to qualified immunity.

At least it isn't starting from a position of compromise. For Progressive ideals to get anywhere, those demanding it have to overshoot and hope the compromise doesn't fall short of what is needed. But I don't know why I'm saying this since you already know it.

The training is the problem. Cops are being trained and equipped to make war on the people and that’s what they do. #DefundThePolice as a means to #AbolishThePolice .
and Reform the Police has been ignored for how many decades? #FundOtherAgenciesThatCouldDoTheWorkPoliceCantProperlyHandle is too long. At least #DefundThePolice is spoken of, even if it's in opposition to it. #Overshoot

It kinda doesn't matter what you call a movement. The propagandists will not cover the intentions of a policy honestly.
We did the reform the police many times. They where calling for that under Obama and no reform took place. kaepernick tired kneeling for police reform didn’t work. There is no cute little bow that we can put on this that going to keep badfaith actors from throwing a fit.
