I understand the critique of #DefundThePolice as a slogan, what I don’t understand is that it’s critics never say what they would do instead. “It’s a bad slogan, so let’s leave policing as it is” is a thousand times worse than any slogan.

I think it’s an unwise slogan because it miscommunicates. Less $ for police wouldn’t have saved George Floyd, Breonna Taylor or Philippe Castille etc. It alone doesn’t get to the core problem: corrupted police culture & inadequate training. #ReformThePolice sounds better to me.

Reform the police is too obvious and communicates nothing specific. Honestly maybe not everything can or should be reduced to a hashtag, which is why defund the police doesn’t work either. This is all a fucking distraction when we should be taking about actual policy.
Well as long as #ReformThePolice sounds better to you. I guess we're done here.
Reform and Defund, I say! I have NO empathy, I lost a state job (Corrections) for a DUI, having drinks with dinner after 7am back injections. No clue it would have an interaction. But you can actually murder someone and STILL have a job!!!
1/2... How bout "make police depts and police unions partly responsible for brutality and wrongful death settlements" No more attitude of "the city will pay the $100K brutality settlement" or "the city will pay the $1MILLION wrongful death settlement"
2/2... Be nice to hear "sorry fellas, no money for raises this year b'cause Yanez shot Philando 5 times at a routine traffic stop" or "sorry your dues went up b'cause Breonna got shot 6 times over a no-knock warrant"
Marianne Williamson, we tried that "reform." It's didn't help. Defind the police and add fine fine the department and its captain. Put down your pen and listen #1 youtube.com/HpcACOFQwKI #2 youtube.com/hJ4OFKzECew
To the issue of policing in general, it is fueled by Dems & Rs alike. BLM exploded on Obama’s watch. The killings happen in cities & states stacked by Dems. Obama is defending the status quo & trying to stymy a powerful idea that the masses are curious about & open to.
