I believe the rats will flee Trump in droves once he's out of office and render him rather irrelevant, however the dysfunction is now in place, and the GOP plan is to replace him with someone equally (or more) venomous.

It's insane that he has such a huge following & I find it so disturbing that there are a lot of people out there that actually believe everything he says. This is a fear-based society, he uses fear effectively. It's the "us against them" mentality.
