“A fossil fuel ally” is everyone who’s ever worked on energy at any meaningful level and you need people who know how to navigate industry. Also all fossil fuel companies are diversifying out of fossil fuels. All but ExxonMobile and that’s why they’re tanking vs others.

Does “diversifying” mean spending less than 1% of their profits on actual renewable energy harvesting? They spend a lot on greenwashing brand rehabilitation but there were literally thousands of better options. Like... actual climate scientists.

Renewable energy is a nascent place with a lot of new technology in the pipeline. I know for a fact that at least Shell and BP are very aggressively moving into the space. The world it’s changing, your narratives around it are valid, but dated.

Sure but you know that we need to cut total emissions in half by 2030 to avoid global crop failures and mass starvation events that decade though, right? We need full fledged investment, not symbolic measures.

All true and valid and new firms are rising to fill that void. The wind turbine operator in Florida is now worth more than Exxon.

I’m just confused about how he’s a good pick? No one has explained that yet. Why not pick someone with experience in the renewable energy sector if “industry experience” is what matters? Don’t you think we should have someone who clearly understands the gravity of the situation?

The main issue here isn't where we need to go but how fast we need to go there. We have a 7-10 year window at this point. They tarried waaaay too long (Jimmy Carter had solar panels on top of WH) and now we have to go *quick.* I don't feel like your timeline would get us there.
