They really need to beef up teaching civics in the schools. Tens of millions of Americans clearly know nothing about the difference between a democracy and a police state. Even worse, when they learn they seem to prefer the latter.

Well, in Texas I’ve been teaching for 16 years and in my district, civics is not offered.

Schools do teach civics. I'm not saying we do a great job, but it's taught at least in 8th and 12th grade in California.

its a product of education being seen as a mechanism that shapes you into a type of worker, instead of tool that lets you become the person you want to be. that's why the humanities have been gutted in public schools everywhere. workers need to follow instructions, not think
