They really need to beef up teaching civics in the schools. Tens of millions of Americans clearly know nothing about the difference between a democracy and a police state. Even worse, when they learn they seem to prefer the latter.

Unfortunately, this is not a civics issue. It is a racism, sexism, classism and oppression issue. Republican law makers know civics. They choose to uphold oppression.

To whatever extent that’s true, it’s a civics issue that we allow them to do it.

They seem to prefe the latter because they think freedom is provided by the armed forces. In a true police state the non-believers are the first to “disappear” and then they go after the clueless, which seems to be who you’re taking about.

“Some have walked through fire and flood to find a place of freedom.” May ours not be a generation that surrendered it.

Americans are not taught real history of this country. At least not till college. So whoever doesn't go to college has a very different view of the country.

Critical thinking skills are no longer encouraged. Also if you examine it, our lives are very much regulated & minimizes our decision making. All these frivolous liability lawsuits changed things for independent thinking.
