In order for the world to repair itself, the average person’s sense of self needs to realign itself by a few very important degrees . Our self-identification needs to shift from that of active consumer to active citizen.

Yes, exactly. We shifted into consumerism via the works of Edward Bernays in the 50s. He used his uncle's (Sigmund Freud) work on the self/mind to benefit industry against citizens. He pioneered the public relations industry in the USA. He also helped birth the CIA.

Very hard when we live in a system that promotes consumerism as a religion but works incessantly to suppress an diminish our rights and duties as responsible citizens. Our decline is imminent and our demise will follow. How long it will take? Nobody knows. But it will be painful.
