The poor are not people who work less hard than the rich. The poor are not those who are less deserving than the rich. The poor are not those with less potential than the rich. The poor are simply those less visible than the rich to those who have the power to affect their lives.

Amen, sister. I seem to be in this spiritual battle every single day. You'd be surprised how many fellow teachers believe their students deserve their lot in life. And next to businessfolk, of which I was one for 35 years, they are among the enlightened ones!

My daughter is a PhD student in religious history and she has explained to me about how that split occurred in the shift from Catholicism to Protestantism. We were founded by Calvinists so it all makes sense.
