The poor are not people who work less hard than the rich. The poor are not those who are less deserving than the rich. The poor are not those with less potential than the rich. The poor are simply those less visible than the rich to those who have the power to affect their lives.

Not to people who believe in their Bible that says people are right where they deserve to be, and the wealthy are more deserving than the poor.

And THAT is the religious and spiritual contest underneath it all.

Amen, sister. I seem to be in this spiritual battle every single day. You'd be surprised how many fellow teachers believe their students deserve their lot in life. And next to businessfolk, of which I was one for 35 years, they are among the enlightened ones!
