Poverty is treated by our govt like it’s an inconvenience, a charitable cause rather than the dark underbelly of systemic economic injustice. The champions of the poor are viewed as ragamuffins who need to learn to behave, radicals too immature to understand how the system works.

Treated as both a carrot & a stick would be more accurate. It's pretty numbing to watch the news & decide what is apathy & what is Machiavellianism in D.C. The Pentagon is spending roughly $2 billion daily but healthcare is a handout & ppl are running out of gas in food lines.
