Poverty should be attacked with the same seriousness and intention to eradicate as we need to display toward Covid. In many ways it too can be a killer, as deaths of despair - suicide, addiction & abuse - increase in its presence. It should not be treated like a secondary problem

I’m old enough to remember a war on poverty when I was young, and thought it said notably great idea. Apparently we lost that war.

Right. They're interrelated. The most vulnerable are most impacted by COVID & other illnesses. And, as you say, poverty is a deadly itself.

Shift the money used for the war on drugs to a war on poverty. The reallocation of funds should include the billions used to incarcerate of the casualties of this senseless war on drugs. Imagine using the billions for housing, education, treatment. Imagine the economic benefit
