Those denying #directcashrelief for tens of millions facing eviction now have no idea the problems they’re creating. Children are in those homes & they’re watching; they’ll grow up traumatized & angry. Dealing with that will one day cause overwhelming problems for this society.

We’re often told the hundreds of billions of dollars we spend every year to “fight terror” is because of movements that grew out of tens of millions of young men in the Middle East who have nowhere to go and no way to make a living. What do you think we’re gonna have in 10 years?

If you want to know what your society will be in 10 years, look at how you’re treating your 10-year-olds today. The invisibility of children to America’s political establishment is a blind spot that will cost us dearly. We need a massive & fundamental change in how we treat them.

When Jacinda Adern said she wanted NZ to be the best place in the world for a child to grow up, I thought to myself “No country should be a better place than America for a child to grow up.” We have a long way to go but we need to try to get there. It at least should be our goal.

_Having lived in the US for 20+ years (I'm Australian)... I would never have a child and bring them up in America (and so I didn't). From the trauma of existence to gun drills at school - there is not enough appreciation and emphasis on preserving innocence.

Unfortunately Ardern is turning out to be more neoliberal than her rhetoric would imply, but as a Kiwi that doesn't really surprise me. NZ Labour has been very neoliberal for decades. Thankfully I get to vote the for NZ Green party, where all the actual progressives are.

Imagine if all countries were competing for the title of “Best Place in the Workd for a Child to Grow Up”. Those should be our worldwide goals, but no

It’s not hard. It’s a redistribution of taxes and government spending, while prioritizing children as number one. America will spend a billion dollars on a fighter jet, yet have zero solutions for the crisis faced by many marginalized and poor children and families.

“No country should be a better place than America for a child to grow up” @marwilliamson disses all the other great countries in one sentence.
