America is paying the price - a terrible one - for the fact that we haven’t prioritized a world-class education or economic opportunities for all our citizens. When you think where we put our resources instead, it’s painful to realize how we brought so much of this on ourselves.

No, there is no "we" there, the political class is not the American people. Better education, more funding for schools, its a topic every time people go to the ballot box, and very little change takes place, because looking for sincerity in politicians is asking to be tricked.
