To those who say that not having healthcare or free higher education somehow equates to “freedom,” I’ll tell you what freedom is: freedom from the unbelievable stress & strain of going to a job you hate every single day just so you can pay for healthcare & your college loan debt.

The cost of post-secondary education is enormous and getting bigger. However, after living in Sweden for 6 months, I understand that when university education is free it is also often taken for granted. As usual the answer lies somewhere in the middle.

When we take something for granted, we gradually learn to value it less and less, and then the institutions themselves become more vulnerable to deterioration.

When I was a child, my parents loved me & we had enough to eat. They could also afford to send me to college. As the years have gone by & I’ve seen more of life, my appreciation for what they were able to give me has only increased. I didn’t need hardship to teach me to work hard

I would think that, to a large degree, work habits have largely been established prior to attending post secondary institutions. Also, as COVID forces many universities online, I suspect many post secondary institutions will become much more affordable and accessible.
