Addiction. Domestic abuse. Suicide. Rampant delinquency & crime. Homelessness & hunger. Child trauma. Think of the billions we spend trying to treat the symptoms & you see the idiocy of the fact we don’t remove the economic despair that’s their most prevalent cause to begin with

I don’t mean this disrespectfully but I have a feeling you’re not poor. You’re right that happiness is not tied to wealth but that’s not a reason to justify a lack of economic justice.

And what do you think a lot of that mental illness came from if not a life of such overwhelming despair?

this is an anachronistic way of looking at a blown out mental stress- please read about #InternalFamilySystems @IFS_Model
But it is vital to address it in a way that empowers people rather than increasing the sense of powerlessness. If you have ever been in the “poverty system” too much disempowers as agency is given to the agencies. Economics must be addressed and systems must be changed.
I was homeless at one point

Studies have shown economic stress causes cognitive impairment. Everything is made harder when you worry about how you will pay your bills, or feel you can’t afford to call in sick. It eats you up. Then you get shamed for being poor, which makes it that much worse.

Americans are so indoctrinated to being a military war state they can't simply see this

It would take so much less money to prevent these things by giving the basics, food, housing, healthcare, and education to everyone.....and we would all be the better for it.
