Having those things, esp health care, under big government control is inevitably totalitarian. Takes longer in some places, but it is inevitable, and will slide that way very quickly in this country.
I can’t understand why thinking Americans should have the same or better healthcare, or educational or economic opportunities that citizens in other advanced democracies have should be considered “too far left.” What’s the downside?

You want to look at the map of western Europe, Canada, Australia & New Zealand & explain that to me? Looking for the totalitarian leaders and so far I can’t find any. USA on the other hand does not have universal health care & just had a would be totalitarian leader for 4 years.

Y soc med is totalitarian W soc med, health of masses tied to fed budget/ debt When fed budget debt is in crisis, and it will be, the logic will become "how to cut costs" Most obvious answer is to cut health care costs. Becomes rationale to control every aspect of our lives,

Or at least those aspects of our lives that might effect our health, which is pretty much everything Will be applied to young and healthy too, as they will eventually need healthcare, gov must pay for, so give has right to control
