I can’t understand why thinking Americans should have the same or better healthcare, or educational or economic opportunities that citizens in other advanced democracies have should be considered “too far left.” What’s the downside?

The downside only affects the PTB and their goal of keeping us in line. If we stay desperate we’re too busy working 2-3-4+ jobs per HH to do anything about it. If we’re dependent we owe them our compliance

The predatory elite would feel less domineering.

They're only looking at what they'll have to pay in taxes. They're not aware that they currently pay much more out of pocket than they would in extra taxes. Frankly, I've not seen one politician explain it that way.

It's not that Marianne. I as a card carrying republican, Trump voter, agree with all of the above. It's the other nonsense that pushes me away from ever voting democrat ever again.

There is zero downside, and potentially a LOT of upsides. I'm honestly really sick of people nixing or criticizing this idea when we've not even tried it yet.

Rich people who inherited their wealth will not profit from others' educational & economic opportunities.

This is the propaganda the 1% and the GOP big donors push to keep all the assets. Other countries have public policies as we used to. If they were in place now Covid 19 would not be out if control.

As a German-American, it's easy to say there is no downside. The GOP seems to view programs that lift people up and move a society towards equal opportunity as a threat to privilege and power.
