I can’t understand why thinking Americans should have the same or better healthcare, or educational or economic opportunities that citizens in other advanced democracies have should be considered “too far left.” What’s the downside?

And what's wrong with too far left for an Imperialist capitalist society? Everything if you're the ruling class of capitalists. Even in responses here, both working class and intelligenza are standing up for those enslaving them. Downside is it's capitalist money.

I am an Australian and we do have Universal Healthcare, we have Social Welfare and that is supported by both sides of the political spectrum. I guess we are a country far too left, but that's ok I accept that and enjoy the benefits.

Yes. What's crazy or radical about what other nations have been doing for years?

Those same people don’t get paid. No downside.

'Thinking' is the downside. Better health and education can lead to questioning the capitalist system of inequality. By keeping this cheap workforce poor, uneducated and sick, the easier they can be manipulated and exploited.

Universal healthcare for all will free the mind from worry and deliver more value in the other end - safety creates creativity and prosperity.
