I wish someone could explain to me why police in other countries de-escalate situations nonviolently in so many instances where police in the U.S. are more likely to shoot to kill. We talk about “better police training” but nothing seems to change...

(I corrected a deleted tweet. Thank you for the advice from so many. One veteran wrote of how police training started changing in the 90s. Please re-post. I know I should’ve left the other one up. Just learning…)

Next time we’ll put you in front of a criminal charging you with a knife. I’m interested in seeing how you would de-escalate the situation. Provide he doesn’t stab you before you reason with him.

This is certainly not true for many countries such as Africa and South America. We are also a very large and heterogeneous county. Many countries are small, homogeneous societies that share the same values, morals, goals etc.

How long were the 2 cops supposed to run from the knife-wielding assailant? They ran more than I would have. Come at me with a knife and I will probably duck and shuffle to give me enough time to draw down on you. I will not hesitate to unload on you until you are on the ground.

Almost all of those shootings are due to "resisting arrest" or the officers were acting in self-defense in a lethal attack. Maybe it's the criminals who need better training, starting at home as kids.
