I wish someone could explain to me why police in other countries de-escalate situations nonviolently in so many instances where police in the U.S. are more likely to shoot to kill. We talk about “better police training” but nothing seems to change...

(I corrected a deleted tweet. Thank you for the advice from so many. One veteran wrote of how police training started changing in the 90s. Please re-post. I know I should’ve left the other one up. Just learning…)

This is why people who are serious about fundamental change in our PDs have discarded the notion of training & moved towards defunding. Bloated budgets are used to militarize police. Which gives them the perception that American citizens are to be treated as enemy combatants.

America is too fascist and racist to end police violence. The best way to reduce state violence against black people is to increase their economic opportunities. Reparations and stronger legal protections that are actually enforced.

Police reflect the culture of the dominant societal group. Broadly speaking, when given authority, lower class white Americans are racist and violent, hence the brutality that is common in US police (and among Trump supporters): ishinobu.com/7s112-4/

washingtonpost.com/world/202… We are so casual about deadly force ... “The European Convention on Human Rights allows police to use deadly force that is ‘absolutely necessary.’ In contrast, police in the U.S. are permitted if they have a ‘reasonable belief’ their lives are in danger.”

Clearly you refuse to acknowledge the police acted in self defence while being attached with a knife? #getthefacts
