I think a lot about the fact that we don’t learn in school how to recognize oppression or what to do if fascism or authoritarianism begin infecting the political body. We learn fealty and unreserved reverence and it makes us vulnerable.

American civics and government is absolutely that education. But 11 states don’t even require a half a year of civics or govt. If we don’t learn about the Bill of Rights as children we don’t know as adults to be horrified when it’s under assault.

Yes I never took a class. In 2016 in college I took American Government and it showed me that I should educate others who didn't take a class and knowledge is power and schools didn't want you to know because once you discover you have power they can't stop you.
Does anyone remember the school house rock cartoons. I have that stuff deeply embedded in my brain. Kids loved those.

I took civics with an excellent teacher and it was still absolutely not an education in that. It taught mechanics and government. But not the social conditions that create this.
