As profound as our problems are, that’s how profound the level of transformation we have to achieve in order to be able to solve them.

For me it’s in the Declaration of Independence. With 11 states not even requiring half a year of American civics, history of government, too many Americans grow up now not really appreciating or even learning the American story.

The real story is a huge dichotomy: we were founded on the most aspirational principles, but even among those who signed the Declaration of Independence 41 out of the 56 were slaveowners. The constant struggle between those two faces of the American character - that IS our story.

I disagree with that. We answered slavery with abolition, we answered institutionalized oppression of women with the women’s suffragette movement, we answered segregation with the civil rights movement. There is shame there but also a lot to be proud of in our history.

There are a few myths more inspiring than the idea of a nation “conceived in liberty and dedicated to the proposition that all men are created equal.” It doesn’t get better than that. It’s what people have struggled for in every generation and it’s what we’re struggling for today

It's too painful for people to go willingly without a swift kick. You shifted the energy on the stage during the Democratic Primary debates. They picked the wrong person, Marianne! You know it deep down too.
Myth - I like that because it's true. The people who can get it done aren't so good with the myths.

Trump’s cult like followers adore him bc he allows and encourages them to act upon their worst hateful instincts. Greed, pillage and destruction are rampant at the top. There’s many of them.

No one cares. No one reads these messages. We could respond with anything, and it wouldn't matter - just like the electorate. They don't care.
