Not from my tax dollars. Thanks.

A problem with employment is many people do not want to have the fixed schedules and other duties and responsibilities that go along with it. They prioritize greater control of their own labor.

What good is it if all it does is make those jobs go away? This is something that also applies to freelance writers, who sell their work to multiple outlets. How do they get to be "employees"? Prop 22 may not be the best solution, but it's what's on offer at the moment.

I've changed my mind on this. If people want to let themselves get exploited I guess it should be their right. We live in such sad times where desperate people have no choice. It's a failure of the system we live in.

Please also highlight that Uber, Lyft, DoorDash, etc. can already avoid reclassifying drivers as employees by getting exemptions from CA legislature for their contractors (e.g. other industries have gotten exemptions by guaranteeing at least 2X minimum wage hourly).

I would rather be a Uber/Lyft freelancer and pay for my own health insurance that to work for Walmart salary and benefits. What makes you think Uber/Lyft would pay more than Walmart?

California is my place of birth, Texas is currently home, I am a Gig worker, I own a Virtual Assistant business. I choose to be a "gig" worker. I think people should have a choice to be treated as an employee or an independent contractor. It should not be mandated!

An employee is ruled by their employer, a "gig" worker makes the rules for themselves and their lives. The ICA's I have with my client's clarifies that they do not have the right to govern my time, and I am not bound by their employer rules and guidelines. PEOPLE's CHOICE!

Didn't AB5 absolutely wreck gig workers and drive them out of work?

Not everyone wants to be an employee. Some want (and need) to determine their own hours/contract. CA is making self-employment and freelancing impossible. Am I for big business? No. But people should have that choice. Now #MedicareForAll --THAT is for workers rights. #Yeson22
